New York state senators push for improved school bus safety
Albany (New York) June 13, 2018
New York state senators announced the push for a new bill that would improve school bus safety.
According to state senators, the cameras would catch the license plate of vehicles passing stopped school buses and act as evidence for further punishment.
Speed toward this solution: We need consequences for traffic camera violations, and more cameras
New York City (New York) June 8, 2018
With majorities in both houses of the state Legislature backing an expansion in New York City of cameras proven to reduce dangerous speeding and pedestrian injuries, it should be a foregone conclusion: The current law authorizing them, set to expire next month, must be renewed.
Save the speed cameras that save children’s lives
New York City (New York) June 17, 2018
As a New York City elementary-school principal, I worry about each and every one of my 350 beautiful “babies” (as I affectionately refer to all PS 124 students, no matter their age) getting there safe. Every day as kids enter our wonderful and welcoming school, they walk past a speed camera posted right in front of the school’s front door that opens onto busy 4th Avenue. With that camera, the odds of each of them coming through that door safe and sound are much higher.
It was not always so.
Colors don’t lie: Clearing up Boynton’s confusing red-light camera rules
Boynton Beach (Florida) June 6, 2018
The takeaway is: it’s all about the solid white line at the intersections:
– If you pass the line and the light is yellow you won’t get a ticket — even if you don’t make it through the entire intersection before the light turns red.
– If the light is red before you reach the line and you drive through, you’ll get a ticket.
– Hawkins emphasizes drivers need to use common sense. As you approach a light, if it’s been yellow for a few seconds, slow down — it’s about to turn red.
Regardless, each potential violation seen by camera vendor American Traffic Solutions is reviewed by Boynton Police before a ticket is given out.
Drivers could see more cameras in Puyallup as city renews photo enforcement program
Puyallup (Washington) June 13, 2018
Red-light cameras in Puyallup are here to stay for at least another five years, with the potential of more in the future.
The Puyallup City Council voted to renew a five-year contract with American Traffic Solutions (ATS) to continue the city’s Photo Enforcement Program.
“For us this is a force extender. It allows us a way to safely enforce red-light camera violations at some of our most challenging intersections in the city,” Puyallup Police Chief Scott Engle said. “I see this as a way for us as an department to be smarter in how we bring traffic safety to the city of Puyallup.”
Red light runners beware: Not paying fine could make it difficult to renew important documents
Leon Valley (Texas) June 5th, 2018
What Leon Valley Police Chief Joe Salvaggio is saying:
“In a short amount of time, we’re seeing a positive impact on the amount of violations.”
“It’s not a lesson they’re only learning in Leon Valley. Hopefully, it’s a lesson they are learning anywhere they drive.”
