Why Would We Sacrifice Safety at New York City Schools?
New York City (New York), July 16, 2018

Cameras have proven to change behavior. From 2014 to 2016, the program resulted in $122 million in violations. But 80 percent of speed-camera violators do not get a second ticket. If any other traffic safety measure performed as well, we’d be working to expand it everywhere in the city, not quietly abolishing it. City residents polled support the camera programs by a large majority.

Best to just roll with those red-light camera tickets

Whatever’s best, I am for safety — 100 percent. Be careful. Show some courtesy. Behave yourself.

Bring back the red-light cameras
Colorado Springs (Colorado), July 12, 2018

I totally support the return of the cameras at the intersections around our city! Certainly, off hours police, fire, city council representatives and citizens like myself have witnessed the continual running of red lights — often at great hazard to others. Bring the red light cameras back and consider increasing their numbers.

The first half of 2018 marked the lowest number of traffic deaths in any six-month period in city history, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday as he fights to preserve the school-zone speed camera program.

There were 81 traffic deaths recorded through June — the lowest since last year, when 95 fatalities were recorded in the same period. The drop is part of a larger, continual decline in traffic deaths since de Blasio launched his Vision Zero traffic safety program in 2014, according to city data.

DOT: ‘Vision Zero’ traffic deaths down citywide
New York City (New York), July 10, 2018

New numbers show the mayor’s Vision Zero program is helping to reduce traffic deaths significantly.

For the first six months of this year, there were 81 fatalities recorded.

That’s the fewest ever over a six-month period.

City DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg credits this to the placement of 140 speed cameras near schools across the five boroughs.

Reminder:  Red-light running is dangerous. in honor of #ThrowbackThursday, we invite you to check out and share this clip of footage captured by cameras across the nation. Stop on Red!
