You must stop for a school bus with its stop sign out, even if you are on the other side of the road. You do not stop if there is a physical barrier between you and the bus, like a fence or unpaved median. If you don’t stop, you could be caught on camera and fined $300. If you are stopped by an officer, you could face a fine of up to about $1200.

Police shared a clip of a driver running a red light at SE 23rd Avenue and Federal Highway on Jan. 26.

 

Surveillance video shows suspected Sarasota hit-and-run vehicle

Police released surveillance video of a vehicle believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Sarasota.

Sarasota police say the crash occurred on January 27 in the 4000 block of Fruitville Road just before midnight. Since then, they have been searching for the driver, who left the scene after hitting and killing 36-year-old Gisela Staino.

Police say evidence left at the scene points to a Mazda 3, between the model years 2004-2009. Surveillance video was obtained from red-light cameras and highlights the vehicle, which is believed to be silver, gray or blue in color with a broken right side headlight and heavy front-end damage on the right side of the vehicle.

Excessive speed is the critical problem

Most of the opposition to the deployment and use of Automated Traffic Enforcement (ATE) devices has centered on red-light violations. In fact, a recent article in the Muscatine Journal pointed that out by listing several options suggested by the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) that are available to reduce the number of red-light violations. Notice that the presumption is in reducing the number of red-light violations and not in reducing speeding violations, modifying driver behavior, or prevention of accidents.
